Doral's houses are young by Miami-Dade standards. The land was swamp and golf course until the early 1980s, when Doral Estates and then Doral Park, a joint venture with Lennar, brought the first subdivisions. Later subdivisions kept the Doral name.⁶

• In the late 1950s Alfred and Doris Kaskel bought 2,400 acres of swampland and opened the Doral Country Club in 1962. The name joins Doris and Alfred, and later subdivisions kept using it.⁶
• From 1983 to 1985 Miami-Dade County froze building in the area to protect its well fields. Once the ban lifted, Doral grew fast.⁶
